Edentulism 2025: The Global Stage for Edentulous Treatment Innovation

After two years of waiting, the largest conference on advanced dental implantology has come to Barcelona!
From June 5 to 7, 2025, the World Trade Center in Barcelona witnessed a unique event in the dental sector: participants from all over the world gathered alongside internationally renowned experts, enjoying numerous opportunities to network and share experiences with colleagues in the field. Without a doubt, Edentulism 2025 left no one indifferent, once again proving to be a unique occasion for all those interested in advanced solutions for edentulous patients.

Building on the success of Edentulism 2023, which brought together over 200 dental professionals from all over the world, this second edition proved to be even more ambitious. Edentulism 2025 included a richer scientific program, an expanded faculty, and a truly global community of clinicians passionate about elevating their knowledge and skills in full-mouth rehabilitation and complex implantology.

A mission of impact

Under the scientific direction of Dr. Carlos Aparicio and organized by ZAGA Centers, the conference reaffirmed its mission: to empower clinicians with evidence-based knowledge and practical tools to improve the treatment of edentulous patients worldwide. The 2025 program featured more than 20 scientific lectures, in which the biggest experts on each specialty shared their knowledge and held interactive round tables covering zygomatic and pterygoid implants, immediate loading, digital workflows, and more.

Pre-congress activities

Before the main event, participants had the chance to attend the ZAGA Course Special Edition from June 2 to 4, led by Dr. Carlos Aparicio. Dr. Zahi Khouri, a Certified ZAGA doctor in Adelaide, Australia, assisted during the hands-on sessions. This highly regarded course provided in-depth training in the Zygoma Anatomy-Guided Approach (ZAGA), while the hands-on sessions used high-quality dental 3D models, helping clinicians apply this advanced philosophy in their practices.

On June 4, the Southern Implants Pre-Congress Workshop offered another exceptional learning opportunity where Dr. Petros Yuvanoglu, Dr. Nicholas Egbert, Dr. Rudi Mukherjee, and Dr. Costa Nicolopoulos led a full day of advanced training on pterygoid, zygomatic, and Co-Axis implants.

A three-day journey through innovation

The official opening of Edentulism 2025 took place on Thursday, June 5, with a warm welcome by Dr. Carlos Aparicio and Prof. Chantal Malevez. The first day offered deep insights into the biological foundations of implant success and the latest surgical advancements in zygomatic treatment. Esteemed speakers such as Prof. Tomas Albrektsson discussed osteoimmune regulation and bone preservation, while Dr. Carlos Aparicio and Dr. Lesley David shared perspectives on patient-specific zygomatic surgery and the lifelong journey of zygomatic implants.

The afternoon focused on aesthetic considerations and digital approaches in full-arch rehabilitation. Presentations by Dr. Marinelly Mendes, Dr. David Norré, and Dr. Corrado Cazacu were followed by a clear clinical framework for choosing between hybrid and quad zygomatic implants provided by Dr. Michael Pikos. The day concluded with a festive welcome cocktail and the traditional private ZAGA Centers dinner at a magical location: Observatory Fabra, one of Barcelona’s highest points. Once dinner was finished, all the assistants had the chance to observe the moon craters from the last working analogic telescope in the world- a unique and unforgettable experience to close an amazing evening with fellow ZAGA Centers, where the unity of the ZAGA Centers Network was on full display!

As Dr. Cemal Ucer remarked: “I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to network and socialize with my ZAGA colleagues, and of course, to learn from one another. Congratulations on organizing such an excellent event and for your warm hospitality during our stay in Barcelona.” Dr. Ucer also mentioned the impact and importance of zygomatic implants and their standardization, thanking Dr. Aparicio for his lifetime’s work: “I would also like to take this opportunity to extend my sincere congratulations to Carlos—not only for developing the ZAGA concept but also for creating the ZAGA implants. It is no exaggeration to say that Carlos’s work has truly revolutionized the field of zygomatic implants, setting a new gold standard. This advancement will undoubtedly continue to reduce complications and elevate the technique from a last-resort option to a preferred treatment for edentulism.”

2nd & 3rd day- Fostering Connections

The scientific momentum continued on Friday, June 6, with an emphasis on managing severe maxillary atrophy. Prof. Fouad Khoury explored the role of bone grafting, while Dr. Caesar Butura exposed an enlightening session on nasal implants. Throughout the day, speakers such as Prof. Cemal Ucer, Dr. Safa Tahmasebi, Dr. Maxim Kopylov, and Dr. Taras Yurov shared their expertise on 3D digitally assisted reconstruction and systematic approaches to atrophic maxilla rehabilitation. The day also addressed complication management in full-arch implant dentistry, thanks to an excellent lecture by Dr. Nick Egbert and round tables led by Dr. Eduardo Nicolaievsky

The evening’s social event offered yet another opportunity for networking and relaxation in the heart of Barcelona. During this time, participants, speakers, moderators, and sponsors had the opportunity to enjoy the wonderful skyline of Barcelona together, from the Eurostars Grand Marina Hotel rooftop. Before dinner, the social media contest winner was also revealed: congratulations to Dr. Juan González!

The final day, Saturday, June 7, focused on the future of conservative zygomatic and pterygoid implant techniques. Dr. Guy Mclellan opened with a session on optimizing outcomes with less invasive approaches, while Prof. Franck Renouard delivered a compelling lecture on risk management and error prevention in complex edentulous surgery.

One of the day’s highlights was the session by Dr. André Sakima and Dr. Peter Ilg on managing the smile line in full-mouth reconstructions—a crucial aspect of modern aesthetic dentistry. In the afternoon, Dr. Rudi Mukherjee discussed pterygoid implants, followed by Prof. Waldemar Polido, who presented new data on the long-term success of short implants. The conference concluded with Dr. Rubén Davó reflecting on whether zygomatic implant therapy is becoming the new gold standard for treating the atrophic maxilla. A final round table and group photo closed an unforgettable edition of the Edentulism Conference. Morning and afternoon round tables were masterfully led by Dr. Jay Neugarten.
